Richard and Sherry Mangum Richard and Sherry Mangum, Flagstaff
Richard and Sherry Mangum are an award-winning husband and wife team who live in Flagstaff. They have written and published books about northern Arizona, and their research has uncovered scores of wonderful old photographs, maps, and other graphic materials that are used to illustrate their presentations. Since 1993, they have conducted free Flagstaff Historic Walks, which have been attended by thousands of people. They were appointed Flagstaff’s Ambassadors by The Arizona Daily Star in 2001, and were nominated as Culturekeepers in 2003. In 2006, they were given the Arizona Governor’s Spirit of Service to Tourism Award.

The Grand Canyon-Flagstaff Stagecoach Line
Although we take the fame of the Grand Canyon for granted today, it was a little-known and seldom-visited attraction until 1892, when the Flagstaff Board of Trade and the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad Company teamed together to advertise it and make it accessible. This illustrated presentation explores the exciting beginnings of the Grand Canyon-Flagstaff Stagecoach Line.

Based on their book, Flagstaff Past and Present, this presentation offers a vivid glimpse into the development of Flagstaff from a railroad construction camp into a modern city of 60,000 residents.

Route 66 Across Arizona
Route 66 is an important part of the heritage of the nation and of Arizona. In the words of the famous song, Get Your Kicks on Route 66: "It winds from Chicago to L. A. More than 2,000 miles all the way…" Some 385 of those miles were in Arizona. This presentation takes the viewer on a nostalgic trip through Arizona by examining the history of "The Mother Road," and discussing the profound impact Route 66 has had on the nation and Arizona.

Zane Grey Brings Hollywood to Arizona
Arizona was a favorite location for Hollywood studios during the heyday of the Western movie. Zane Grey started it all, with his insistence that his stories be filmed on location. Since many of Grey’s novels were based in Arizona, they were inevitably filmed here. This presentation discusses the influence of Zane Grey’s idealized image of Arizona, the millions who traveled to Arizona to see it in real life, and its impact on Arizona’s tourism industry.
