Dr. Whitaker will examine the history of America's inability to sufficiently engage the history and life of race and racism. He will demonstrate that the tendency to exploit racial fears (otherwise known as the "Southern strategy") has been a fundamental organizing principle of American politics, and examine how Barack Obama's presidential candidacy has impacted this historic mindset.
