ASU Public History Program, Tempe. History of Laveen and South Mountain Library Exhibit Planning, $2,940. The research and planning phase of an exhibit, to open in January 2008, on the history of the neighborhoods surrounding the new Cesar Chavez Branch of the Phoenix Public Library. Gilbert Historical Museum, Gilbert. Reinterpretation of Occupations Room, $6,000. New interpretation and materials for the exhibits at the museum that describe the diverse occupations of Gilbert residents from 1900 to the 1950s, to debut at Gilbert Days in November 2007. Mesa Community College, Mesa. Mesa Community College International Film Festival, $3,000. The fourth annual festival, held in downtown Tempe in March 2007, features an opening reception and discussions with Indian director Shyam Benegal following the showings of six of his films. Phoenix Museum of History, Phoenix. True Life Stories: Scandals, Vice, and the Evolution of Law & Order in Phoenix, $3,000. An exhibit debuting in October 2007 on the evolution of law and order in Phoenix, accompanied by a lecture series to foster discussion on related contemporary issues. School for Advanced Research Press, Sante Fe. The Hohokam Millenium, $6,000. The publication of a book in September 2007 based on two decades of research on the Hohokam civilization of the Phoenix basin, accompanied by public events at the Arizona State Museum in Tucson. U of A Poetry Center, Tucson. Native Voices Symposium: Indigenous Language and Poetry, $3,000. A public symposium and accompanying pod-cast in June 2007 exploring the themes of indigenous language and poetry from the perspectives of storytellers, poets, and scholars.
